About MDCs
Major Diagnostic Categories (MDCs) are the highest level of classification in the MS-DRG system. Each MDC corresponds to a single organ system or disease process.
MDCs are used to organize the hundreds of MS-DRGs into clinically meaningful groups, making it easier to analyze hospital utilization patterns by specialty area.
